He said he has been familiar with the tournament over the years with the deployment of a media team for coverage while he was at Lagos Television (LTV).

Agbesanwa assured the LOC that the tourney has come to stay with the support of the state government because of its lofty and achievable objectives that would benefit the populace.

He thanked the LOC for its commitment, resources expended, and for keeping the tourney running, year in year out, and assured it of the provision of vehicles for transportation as it requested.

The LOC members expressed happiness for the support of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and invited him to watch the finals.

One of the tournament’s objectives is to attract emerging Nigerian stars to compete with the best international circuit players for experience and rating.

The tournament, which does not charge gate fee, is organised with involvement of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Up to 38 countries participated in the 14th edition last year.
