By Ishaya Ibrahim

Until November 24, former Vice President Atiku Anubakar was almost obscure on the internet, trending by only 12 per cent. The favourite man in the news was President Muhammadu Buhari who had maintained an average of 63 percent trend on Google.

On November 24, Atiku became internet sensation, trending by 69 percent after the news broke that he had left the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Data from Google trends show that Atiku has closed the gap on Buhari. He is now a top search topic among those asking about the two politicians on the internet.

In the data, residents of Adamawa, Cross River and Bayelsa visited the internet more often than the other Nigerians asking for news about Atiku.

This might not be unconnected with the 2019 race where the two gladiators are expected to slug it out.

On twitter ranking, Buhari commands 1.2 million followers while Atiku trailed him with 1 million.
