The Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa-ed Delta State Government has denied stopping the free mother and child care that was initiated by the past administration in hospitals in the state as was reported in the social media.

It however pointed out that the free Mother and Child medical care programme in Delta State was still in place and ongoing in the Okowa’s administration.

In a statement by the Media Assistant to the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Sam Ijeh,

“Okowa has not only continued the free programme under his administration, he has also made it sustainable to last beyond his administration through the Delta State Health Insurance Scheme where the governor signed the Law that 0.5 percent of the State Consolidated revenue should be used to pay for the healthcare service of all pregnant women, children under five years, the elderly over 65 years and the Physically and Mentally Challenged residents of Delta State.

“The same goes for pregnant women and children under 0 -5 years.”

On the purported cancellation of the free Cesarean section that usually costs so much for delivering mothers, Ijeh reaffirmed that the free cesarean section programme was still on and has been extended to the Primary Healthcare facilities along with the Free Mother and Child healthcare programme.

Recall that under the previous administration, the programme was only in general hospitals, far away from most rural communities.
