How Ikeja Golf Club thrilled kids on Children’s Day

Despite the heavy downpour on Children’s Day (May 27), Ikeja Golf Club drilled kids on the rudiments of the game of golf, as the club celebrated the Children’s Day in partnership with the Kids Golf International (KGI).

The event, which was the second edition, lived up to expectations with the captain of the Ladies’ Section of the club, Dr. Veronica Chaka-Awatai, teaching the kids the theory and practical aspect of the game.

“Eyes on the ball and swing,” was etched on the minds of the over 110 kids that participated in the one-day event as lectured by Chaka-Awatai.

 

The event teed off about 7am. At the end, prizes were presented to winners of various categories with words of encouragement from the Ladies’ Section to the kids to take keen interest in the game of golf.

In the age five category, Rotimi Balogun emerged champion with 12 scores over two holes, while Ayoola Durojaiye came second with 13 scores, followed by Feyifuwa Obifarinde placing third with 28 scores.

 

In the age eight category, Ibrahim Aderonbi emerged winner with 48 scores over nine holes, while Dara Adebayo came second with 41 scores over five holes. Philip Oboh placed third.

 

Tolu Afolayan emerged Best Learner, with Ibrahim Aderonbi winning the Best Boy trophy. Olamide Akingbo won the girls’ category.

 

Other winners include Stephen Adedokun who scored 109 over 18 holes to emerge champion, while Sambo Umoh with 129 scores came second. Dele Gogor of International School, University of Lagos emerging third with 133 scores.

 

Secretary of the Ladies’ Section, Lola Mamudu, expressed appreciation to the kids for their participation and urged them to keep playing the game, as it will take them to greater heights.

 

“I really enjoyed myself at the event, and I have also learnt one or two tricks of the game which I will definitely put to practice in future,” said Gogor.
