Islamic group demands release of El-Zazzaky

-

Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN),  Yobe State wing, has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to release its leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zazzaky, and also release the group’s impounded vehicle in Kano in 2016 during journey to Zaria.

“We see this as a violation of our human rights, considering the fact that the constitution of Nigeria has allowed every citizen to worship freely without intimidation and harrasement. Islam is our religion which we chose to belong,” said Sheikh Ibrahim Lawan, one of the leaders of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

He spoke at Faudiyya Centre in Potiskum town preparatory to the fortieth day commenmoration after the martyrdom of Imam Husain.

He used the forum to appeal for the immediate release of their detained leader Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zazzaky.

Recall that El-Zakzaky was arrested after over 300 members of his group were killed for blocking a road in Kaduna being plied by the motorcade of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai.

He further revealed, “Though some state governments and the Federal Government have been plotting evil against our peaceful Arbaeen trek and commonmeration of Imam Husain (AS),  we pray that Allah thwart and frustrate their evil plot as he has done in the past. We would like to reiterate our demand for the release of our reverred Leader,  Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zazzaky who has now spent two good years in an illegal and unconditional detention, even with a valid order from a competent Court for his release.

“We will not rest on our oars until the Sheikh, his wife and others in detention since December,  2015 are set free”.

The IMN chieftain further stated, “we would like to assure the general public that this year’s Arbaeen trek like those before,  it is peaceful and devoid of any attempt to curb the right of passage to other Highway users.  Nobody should fear our Arbaeen trek, love for Imam Hussein (AS) is not the exclusive right of Muslims only right from the gruesome attack on the Imam at Karbala, but for  all those who love justice and fight against oppression in all ages, ours inclusive.

“That is why we again welcome our Christian Brothers in humanity who have chosen on their own free will to trek with us today. This is not the first time they have identified themselves with Imam Husain,  they have done it before and we will thankfully welcome them “.
