Mamaye Evidence for Action (E4A), a Billgate and Melinda sponsored project, has lamented that lack of blood bank in hospitals has contributed to the high maternal mortality rate in the northern part of the country.

Segun, who was represented by Media Adviser of the project, Shokunbi Olaide, lamented that as high as 500 woman die out of 100,000 births  every year from pregnancy-related issues.

He said that most of the death by women and children were preventable with adequate health facilities such as functional blood banks, qualify health personnel, accessible primary health care centres (PHC) and logistics among others.

He thereby urged the media to continue to be in the forefront in their role in holding those in authority accountable particularly in ensuring that issues of women and children are adequately promoted and addressed.

“We want to particularly thank BRC for the support they have been given to us in our effort to promote MNCH in the state.

“We expect you to do more because the journey is long and we hope that maternal and infant death will end soon.”

Responding, the acting Managing Director of BRC, Alhaji Idris Sambo, commended Mamaye evidence for Action for championing the cause of mothers and infants who were the boosters of the population.
