NAMA strengthens air traffic management

Measures are being taken by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to strengthen air traffic management and surveillance to ensure operational safety nationwide.

NAMA Managing Director, Ibrahim Abdulsalam, met with airspace managers and air traffic engineers in Lagos and directed them to remain vigilant and pay attention to safety details.

“In view of recent incidents involving some airlines and the unfortunate Bristow helicopter crash, it has become imperative that we maintain the highest standards of safety by promptly reporting and dealing with even the slightest safety related issue that comes up,” he warned.

He said although the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is auditing airlines “as the airspace managers, we must also gear up efforts to compliment what the regulator is doing by going a little further than we used to, in ensuring maximum safety.”

Abdulsalam charged air traffic managers and quality assurance managers to work with airspace managers for harmonised network operations, as NAMA will stick to its zero tolerance for incidents.

He also urged the use of the hotlines for complaints and enquiries so that issues could be promptly addressed by the headquarters office.
