NGO empowers 5,911 Deltans with N764m

Team Smart, a non-governmental organization in Delta State, has doled out N764 million as micro credit scheme for 5,911 Delta State indigenes, who have contributed to the development of the state.

The event, which do take place in Hotel Benizia, attracted a lot diginatries from both the private and the public sectors.

Team Smart Chairman, Orishedere Esheshare Sunny, disclosed that in the past 23 months, the state governor, Dr.Ifeanyi Okowa, had been delivering  the democracy dividends despite the economic haedship.

He explained that the Team Smart was an organization bound in complementing other information agencies of the government in showcasing facts, figures and successes of the state governor to all nooks and crannies of the state through townhall meetings and sensitization programmes.

He disclosed that the organization has laid down programmes to empower the people through Smart Free Digital Awareness, Snmart School Knowledge Programme, Smart Green Agric Initiative, and the Smart MPCS, adding that 2,413 teachers of primary, secondary, and private sector have benefited from the digital programme while over 1,623 students have benefited from Okowa free lesson across the state.

He appealed to those, who received awards at the event and other state indigenes for continuity and sustenance of t Okowa’s programmes.

An awardeee and a technocrat, Mr. Okeke Okwdili Jerry, the chief executive officer of Jemok Petroleum Limited, commended the organization for recognizing him as a contributor to state development, adding that he had employed over 300 youths and would be at their service anytime the need arises.

He advised the youths to be creative and that the successes of any business was uprightness, while pledging support to Okowa and commended the governor for his ability to conduct a massive road rehabilitation, construction and maintainance in Asaba metropolis.

Mrs. Bello, who was a speaker at the occasion and the executive secretary, Micro Credit Development Agency, said that her office through the state governor had been given monies to small-scale businesses through micro credit and had not let illiteracy hinder benefactors from having access to loans, adding that she is down to earth with the people through empowering them and to bring them closer to government.
