On AMP empty treasury

-

Perhaps the biggest Nollywood news in December of last year was the election into the offices of the Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria (AMP) with Lilian Amah Aluko and Ralph Nwadike slugging it out for president, which the latter won.

It would seem that having settled down to work the new executive is hampered by lack of funds. A source close to the AMP secretariat swore that the new executive is finding it difficult to procure stationary to run the office as it may have met with an empty treasury.

“The new executive has still been unable to produce letterhead, which it needs to write letters and the association’s other correspondences,” said the source. In fact, the source added that members of the new executive have had to spend money out of their pockets to keep the association going.

Many a stakeholder has started asking what the last executive did with the largesse from the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan, which was openly friendly to it in cash and kind. Some even go as far as mentioning some state governors that pitched in at one time or the other. Perhaps the time has come for a probe of Nollywood guilds not unlike the one at the federal level in the country at the moment.
