Terra Kulture Arena stages grand opening

Terra Kulture, an educational and recreational private sector organisation set up in 2003 to promote the richness and diversity of Nigerian Languages, Arts and Culture, will today hold a grand opening of a theatre space on the Lagos Island.

The two-day event, which started yesterday, will have the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, declaring the just completed theatre with 450 seats called Terra Kulture Arena open today.

Aside the 450 seats, the space is equipped with state of the art lighting, sound, stage and audio visual LED screen comparable to what obtains in theatres all over the world, a statement from Terra Kulture, said.

“We will also be running the London edition of WAKAA! The Musical every weekend in April and all through the Easter holidays. We will also show a snippet of our new play Fela and the Kalakuta Queens at the grand opening,” the statement further explained.

Today’s event begins at 2pm the Plot 1376 Tiamiyu Savage, Victoria Island, Lagos location of the new theatre.

Terra Kulture is a resounding success recognised as a major cultural hub in Nigeria for expatriates, students, Hollywood and Nollywood stars, artistes and members of the diplomatic corps.

In its over ten years of existence it has organised over 200 art exhibitions, many plays, book readings and over 10,000 adults and children have attended the centre’s language classes and excursions.

In association with Bolanle Austen-Peters Productions, Terra Kulture started its own productions with the production of SARO: the Musical in 2013, a production, which enjoyed numerous reviews from the international media including the BBC, Daily Mail Newspapers of the UK and SKY News and has since produced five additional Broadway style shows.

A proudly Nigerian organisation, Terra Kulture has been in the forefront of the promotion of Nigerian art and culture, developing talents and creating employment in the sector with the employment of over 60 staff and the creation of over 150 ancillary jobs on a monthly basis through its theatre and arts products.
