FADAMA III  programme is targeting the provision of food items and other essential human needs to about 5,320 vulnerable groups and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yobe State.

The programme’s State Coordinator, Alhaji Musa Garba, disclosed this in Damaturu.

He also said that his organisation was providing capacity building by giving advice on the new techniques, new ideas on animal rearing, fishery among others.   The state coordinator further disclosed that there was no diversion of items meant for the IDPs because they have desk offices that monitor the projects closely.

His words: “We have desk offices at the national, state and local government levels that monitor the project’s activities.

“Also we have entered into contractual agreement with some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that work for the project. They reach out to the communities and assess the project themselves.”

According to Garba, Fadama III has within last two months in Yobe supported over 1,000 households in Gulani, Nangere, Geidam and Gujba local government areas among others with irrigation facilities, livestock such as female goats, male goats, sheep, ram, chicken and guinea fowl layers.  Others were food assistance consisting of rice, maize, sorghum, millet, vegetable oil, salt and sugar.

The coordinator  thanked Yobe State government for the continuous payment of its counter-part fund, stressing, “that shows how committed and  serious the state government is in providing infrastructure and social amenities to its citizens”.
