Yobe governor presents N92.2b 2018 budget

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State on Tuesday  presented 2018 budget of N92,182,336,00 billion to the Yobe State  House of Assembly for consideration.

The budget is higher than 2017 figure of N69.36 billion.

The governor stated that the 2018 budget was yet another opportunity that would enable the state government  to continue to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the  people and concretise their efforts of uplifting the standard and condition of living of all citizens of the  state.

In keeping with the vision and mission enunciated in Yobe State Socio-Economic Reform Agenda, (YOSERA), Gaidam said: “In the 2018 Budget, we proposed to spend the sum of N92,182,336,000. This figure represents an increase of N9,616,019,000 or 10.4% above that of the out-going fiscal year.”

The governor further disclosed that they intend to spend N47,447,905,000 or 51.5% to cater for recurrent expenditure and N44,734,431,000 or 48.5% to cover capital expenditure.

According to Governor Gaidam,  this year’s budget is tagged, “Budget of consolidation and socio-economic rejuvenation.”

On the implementation of the budget, Gaidam said, “We shall continue to instill observance of due process, budget discipline, probity, transparency, and accountability, which are some of the essential hallmarks of good governance.

“The aims and objectives of our budget shall as usual be focused on taking proactive steps towards achieving the following: Revitalizing the educational system to return to its former glory; increase access to health facilities to the teeming population through accelerated upgrading of infrastructure, provision of basic requirements and human resource for health;

promotion of agricultural activities as veritable tool for poverty alleviation, job creation and food security, among others; taking further steps towards reducing the cost of conducting government business; provision and upgrade of infrastructural facilities like roads, water and electricity supply towards reducing rural-urban migration and accelerating our Post-Insurgency Peace and Recovery efforts; tapping the abundant solid minerals, tourism and commercial potentials and other endowments for diversifying the internal revenue generation base of the state;

increased involvement of our citizens in the ownership and management of productive enterprises in the state as well as reorienting their psyche for creation of better attitude to work, trades and skills as well as increase in the supply of skilled manpower.”

He  thanked and commended the  citizens of Yobe for their support, cooperation, and sacrifice, while urging them to continue to pray for peace, improved security in the state, the North-East and Nigeria in general as well as good health for all the  people and prosperity of the  beloved State.

In his separate remarks, the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly,  Adamu Dala Dogo, called on the people of the state to rally round the policies and programmes of the Governor Ibrahim Gaidam for the betterment of all in the year 2018 and beyond 2018.
