Australia held on to a narrow first-half lead to pick up a crucial win that kept their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup last 16 alive

Australia after losing 4-1 to France in their first match, earned their first win of the 2022 World Cup after edging 1-0 past Tunisia in a match played at the Al Janoub Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Graham Arnold’s side came out of the blocks full of energy and intent and got their reward in the 23rd minute when Mitchell Duke superbly flicked Craig Goodwin’s cross into the far corner to put them 1-0 ahead.
That sparked an outburst of jubilant celebration from the small contingent of Australia fans behind the goal, which momentarily silenced the hostile and unwavering support for Tunisia.

They, however, had to survive a desperate onslaught from Tunisia in the second half, with Youssef Msakni forcing goalkeeper Mathew Ryan into a save at his near post.
Then came a moment at the other end, when Mathew Leckie came inches away to connecting with Goodwin’s cross to make it 2-0 to Australia.
Stoke City defender Harry Souttar put in a superb performance, making several key blocks and tackles as Australia dug in.
The Socceroos held on to the narrow first-half lead to pick up a crucial win that kept their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup last 16 alive.
The next take on tough opponents in Denmark but with qualification in their own hands, while Tunisia now have a must-win encounter against defending champions, France.
