Canada, 19 other countries book tickets for Qatar 2022

Canada defeated Jamaica 4-0 in a World Cup playoff tie on Sunday to qualify for Qatar after 36 years of wait

Canada have joined the list of national teams that have so far qualified for this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar, taking the tally to twenty (20) countries.

The Les Rouges defeated Jamaica 4-0 in a World Cup playoff tie on Sunday to qualify for Qatar after 36 years of wait by the North American country.

Goals from Cyle Larin, Tajon Buchanan, Junior Hoilett in the 13th, 44th and 88th minutes, and an own goal from Jamaicas’ Adrian Mariappa in the 88th minute secured  Canada the qualification.

The previous 19 counties that had qualified are Qatar, who got in as host, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, Denmark, Ecuador, England, France, and  Germany, 

Others are IR Iran, Japan, Korea Republic, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, and Uruguay.

Five of Egypt, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, DR Congo, Morocco, Mali, Tunisia, Cameroon, and Algeria are expected to take 5 of the 12 remaining slots out of the 32 available tickets after the second leg of their playoffs conclude today. 

The draw for the 2022 World Cup will take place on Friday, April 1, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center in Doha, Qatar after 11 of the 12 outstanding places have been decided.   

However, after the postponement of Ukraine vs Scotland playoff semifinal, and the subsequent playoff final against Wales by FIFA due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the final slot will be allocated after the draw had taken place.
