Guber Tribunal: Imo awaits judgment

-

There is anxiety in Imo State as the residents await the judgment on the actual winner of the governorship election in the state.

This followed the adoption of briefs and final arguements from parties at the Imo governorship tribunal.

Uche Nwosu of the Action Alliance (AA); Senators Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Ifeanyi Ararume of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) are challenging the victory of the PDP candidate, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, in the March 9, 2019 governorship election in the state.

Among the three challengers, the governor’s team is believed to be more worried about Uche Nwosu who placed second in the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Nwosu, who polled over 180,000 votes, is contending that the PDP candidate colluded with INEC officials to manipulate figures in the three LGAs of the state, and asked the tribunal to cancel the results from areas where massive fraud was perpetrated, and declare him winner with valid votes cast in the election. He argues that he won the election, and met the Constitutional requirement of garnering 25% votes in 75% of the state.

Nwosu, in the alternative, asked the tribunal to declare the election inconclusive and order a run-off between him and Emeka Ihedioha, on the argument that the PDP candidate fell short of the provision of section 159(2) of the Constitution.
