Hilda Baci is on the cusp of being officially confirmed as the new Guinness World Record (GWR) holder for the longest cooking time after her cook-a-thon in Lekki, Lagos lasted 87 hours 50 minutes on Monday morning.

She has been congratulated by the previous world record holder Tala London who set the Longest Cooking Marathon time  by an individual at 87 hours 45 minutes in India in 2019.

GWR managers say they are checking the details of Baci’s feat to confirm it. “We’re aware of this amazing record attempt, we need to review all the evidence first before officially confirming a record,” they said in a tweet on Monday.

After that announcement, Hilda Baci (born Hilda Effiong Bassey) extended the record to 100 hours on Monday at 8pm.

Below are five things being in the Guiness Book of Records means to her and Nigeria, according to Tribune.

Official complimentary record holder certificate

The GWR does not pay record holders for their achievement but the holder gets an official complimentary record holder certificate stating details of the record.

This means no economic compensation aside from the pride that comes with being the best at what you do.

Global recognition

Hilda has already climbed that global stage. Regardless of where she comes from, setting a Guinness World Record sets her aside among competitors.

On Sunday, the amazing chef received Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos — Nigeria’s richest and most populous state — who went to support her giant stride at Amore Gardens in Lekki.

Other personalities who have visited the competition site or spoken to her on the phone or tweeted congratulations to her include President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, President-elect Bola Tinubu, and Senate President contestant Godswill Akpabio.

All this means more fame and recognition for the new record breaker.

Hilda Baci is now a unique brand name globally.

Nigerians at home and abroad have rooted for her on social media, attracting global attention to her and to Nigeria since she began the marathon cooking last Thursday.

The chef has received special recognition from government officials, celebrities, clerics, and other Nigerians, as well as from people from across the world.

This means a lot to Hilda and Nigeria.
