Only last week, a group of killers beheaded a lawmaker representing Aguata Constituency 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Okechukwu Okoye.

Penultimate week, a couple, just newlywed Nigerian Army officers were murdered while on a trip in Imo. The killers filmed the bloodletting and sent the video to their relatives. The father of the groom and his youngest son who travelled from Kaduna to the South East for the wedding were among the slaughtered.

It is not clear if IPOB was behind these gory killings because its spokesman, Emma Powerful, has repeatedly dissociated the group from any act of violence. But the allegation that appears strong against IPOB is that the killers, whoever they are, join in the IPOB agitation either as genuine agitators or simply using the platform to further their criminal operations.

On Twitter, Nigerians are outraged about the murder of Fatima, her unborn baby and four children, blaming IPOB for the crime.

@RealOlaudah said: “Despicable act murdering the woman and her four kids by IPOB terrorists. You see these infidels you guys support, let them not push us into another ill-prepared war o. The risk of collateral damage to our people will be gargantuan. We are the only tribe exposed all over Nigeria.”

A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Adamu Garba, tweeted: “In the whole world, there’s never a terrorist organization that is as cowardly as IPOB. More so, there are no ones given unto self-destruction than their silent supporters The gruesomely murdered Fatima & her kids are from my state, Adamawa. I mean are we really in the same country? The double standard is unimaginable. It seems like lives in Nigeria have two grades The whole media went silent, and the whole online so-called hypocritical agitation and fake-minded Human rights fighters were nowhere to be found. Worst is, the govt can’t & won’t do anything about it.”

@manuabba said: “Sadly, our scholars chose what to condemn and what not to. Deborah was lynched for blasphemy, you were quick to condemn it by quoting hadiths. Now, Fatima and her 4 kids were gruesomely murdered by IPOB/Christian terrorists, but you’re very silent about it. Hypocrisy is a virus.”

@AMSaleeem said: “Pregnant Northern woman and her four kids were gruesomely butchered by IPOB terrorists. A day after the incident there’s still no uproar on the media/streets and no single word/action from Govt. Imagine the tension if it happens to a Southern mother in Sokoto, Kaduna or Kano.”

A journalist, Jafar Jafar, tweeting via his handle @JafarSJafar said: “It’s time we stopped sugar-coating. IPOB is a terrorist group and it’s no different from Boko Haram and bandit terrorists.”

But IPOB has denied the allegation that its members murdered Fatima and her children.

In a statement signed by Emma Powerful, IPOB warned criminals attacking the Hausa community in the South East to desist from doing so, as per reporting by Vanguard Newspaper.

The statement reads: “We reiterate once again that Hausas have suffered much in the hands of Fulani like Biafrans and we will not allow any criminal to touch them again, they are free to do their business anywhere they like in our land and those who killed mother and children of Hausa extraction to be ready and wait for us we are coming for them,” Powerful said.
