Kwara United Coach rues missed chances in 2-0 defeat of Gombe United

Kwara United Manager, Sulyman Ashifat bemoaned his side’s profligate goals scoring misses despite their 2-0 defeat of visiting Gombe United.

The Ilorin side scored two goals in quick succession including one by former NPFL top scorer, Junior Lokosa, to condemn Gombe United FC to a 2-0 defeat on Sunday in Ilorin.

Speaking after the encounter, Ashifat while expressing delight at the win, claimed that it will spur his players to do well in the next game.

“We lost too many scoring opportunities and I’ll work with other members of the technical crew to address this issue”, Danlami told www.npfl.ng

The hosts started brightly with Lokosa forcing Gombe United’s goalkeeper, Itodo Akor to a fine save as early as the 2nd minute of play at the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Former Kwara United winger Ahmed Jimoh almost put the visitors ahead in the 7th minute when he lobbed the ball over an on-rushing Dele Aiyenugba but his effort went wide.

Gombe United had another moment of magic in the 19th minute of play following a fantastic team play by the attackers to scare the homers’ fans with a forward surge.

Gombe United’s Yusuf AbdulAzeez would later beat an offside trap to connect a fine pass but his final touch went wide in the 28th minute.

To the relief of the home fans, Lokosa scored in the 36th minute off a goal mouth scramble to put the Kwara Stadium Complex into frenzy.

Just about 104 seconds later, Alao Danbani doubled the lead tapping home Kwara United’s second of the evening after Lokosa’s initial bicycle kick hit the upright.

Kwara United restarted from where they ended the first half but they were very poor in front of goal for most occasions.

The game was put to a halt in the 71st minute to honour the late Kwara FA Chairman, Malam Busari Ishola, who died on Sunday, Jan. 23.

Kabiru Balogun had all the chance to himself to be on the score sheet but he missed a sitter leaving the fans and bench in anguish in the 79th minute.

Kwara United will now make a trip to Uyo for the NPFL MatchDay 10 fixture against Akwa United.
