The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has postponed Super Eagles 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) double header qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau to next year.
Both encounters, as well as other qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON which was earlier scheduled to take place in September 2022, will now come up in March 2023.
This was made known via a statement released on Sunday, July 31 by the Confederation of Africa Football’s (CAF) Executive Committee.

The Executive Committee in the statement said it took the decision because of the need to allow the 5 African nations going to the 2022 Qatar World Cup to have adequate preparation.
The statement reads: ” The Confederation of African Football (“CAF”)_ Executive Committee has approved a revised TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 revised qualification calendar.
“This was necessitated by the Executive Committee’s commitment to make room for the African nations that have qualified for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in November/ December 2022 to prepare adequately.
“Consequently, the September 2022 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire match day three and match day four qualifiers have been moved to 20-28 March 2023.
“Match day five will now be on 12-20 June 2023 while match day six will be played on 4-12 September 2023.”
Nigeria top Group A of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with 6 points after recording two wins out of two games played, Guinea-Bissau are second with 4 points after earning 4 points from a win and a draw.
Mauritius are third in the group having won one game and lost one, they are followed by Sierra Leone and São Tomé and Príncipe, who have 1 and 0 points respectively.
