Oyedepo made the comment, after an audio of his conversation with LP presidential candidate, Obi, surfaced on social media

The founder of Living Faith Church a.k.a Winners’ Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo has refuted claims that he is politically aligned.

He made this known while addressing worshippers during the sermon on Sunday, claiming some persons are angry with him because he only speaks what God tells him to say and not what people want to hear.

Prior to the sermon, the spokesperson for the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign, Kenneth Okonkwo, had confirmed the authenticity of an audio of a phone conversation between his principal, Peter Obi and Bishop David Oyedepo.

In the audio which was released by an online newspaper, Peoples Gazette, Obi solicited the support of Oyedepo to help get votes from Christians in South-West.

“Daddy, I need you to speak to your people in the South-West and Kwara, the Christians in the South-West and Kwara. This is a religious war. Like I keep saying: if this works, you people will never regret the support,” Obi said in the audio.

The audio has since then attracted criticism for Obi, with some of his supporters saying it was doctored.

However, in a statement in the wee hours of Sunday, Okonkwo after verifying the authenticity of the recording, claimed it was taken out of context by critics.

Speaking during Sunday services Oyedepo said contrary to claims that he seems to prefer some politicians or political parties over others, he has never campaigned for anybody or any political party.

He went on to stress that these political parties only come to him for prayer and advice.

He said: “I don’t speak what people want to hear, I speak what God tells me to say, that is why some people are very angry with me.

“Nobody has ever told me what to say in this world. I have never campaigned for anybody or spoken on anybody’s behalf, and I will not do that till I go to heaven.

“There is no party in this country that did not come to me for prayers, there is none, for prayers and advice. I advise them, some don’t take it; those who chose to take it, they see results, those who say no, they’re going about it.”
