Salah was subjected to racial abuse, Egypt FA tells FIFA

The Egyptian FA has complained to the world football governing body, FIFA, that the Senegalese intimidated and racially abused their players during the reverse fixture of their World Cup playoff in Dakar.

The World Cup qualifier, which went into penalties after both sides ended on a 1-1 aggregate scoreline after the two legs was marred by allegations that Mohamed Salah and his teammates were racially abused and targeted by lasers.

Senegal eventually won the shoot-out 3-1 and booked their place as one of the five African representatives in the World Cup in Qatar.

However, a bitter fallout has ensued, with the Pharaohs making accusations about their treatment in Dakar.

Egypt FA has now filed a complaint, with allegations that their players, particularly Salah, were racially abused, had objects thrown at them during the warm-up, and that their bus was attacked.

“The national team has been exposed to racism with offensive signs in the stands against the Egyptian players in general, and Mohamed Salah in particular,” the Egyptian FA statement read.

Meanwhile, FIFA after receiving the complaint promised to examine match reports and deal with the issues appropriately.  

“FIFA is currently in the process of analysing the official match reports of the FIFA World Cup qualifier match between Senegal and Egypt,” FIFA’s statement said.
